Location

Bratislava (population 450000) is the capital of Slovak Republic, located close to the Austrian, Hungarian and Czech borders.

Bratislava is a very old town with more than 2000 years history. Full town privileges were granted to Bratislava in 1291. The historic centre is dominated by the Bratislava Castle.

Today Bratislava is a political, economic and cultural centre of Slovakia. Bratislava is the seat of Comenius University, Slovak Technical University and Economy University.

Conference Site and Registration Office

The conference will be held in Druzba - congress centre of the Comenius University, which is located about 3km west of the town centre. By regular tram connection it is possible to reach the town centre in about 10 minutes.

The registration office will be locate in the conference site building. It will be open from 14:00 to 22:00 on Sunday August 24 and from 7:30 on Monday August 25.


Entry Visa

Citizens of most European countries do not need entry visa. As the visa regulations keep changing, please check with the nearest Slovak Consulate whether you need a visa. Note that processing your visa application may take several weeks.


Getting There

Only few international flights land at the Bratislva airport. The nearest large international airports are Vienna (Austria), Prague (Czech Republic) and Budapest (Hungary).

From Vienna to Bratislava

There is direct bus connection from Vienna airport to bus station Mlynske Nivy in Bratislava. You can also get to Bratislava by train from Vienna Sudbahnhof station. The distance from Vienna to Bratislava is approximately 60 km.

From Prague to Bratislava

It takes approximately 5 hours (about 400 km) to get from Prague to Bratislava by train or by bus. You can also fly to Bratislava by regular direct air line from Prague.

From Budapest to Bratislava

Distance from Budapest is about 200 km. By train or by bus it takes 2,5 hours. Train from Budapest-Keleti pu. station departs for Bratislava approximately every 2 hours.

Local Transportation

You can get to Druzba centre from:

A municipal transport ticket costs 7 Sk and it can be bought in the railway station hall, in the bus station terminal hall or in one of the wending machines at important bus or tram stops. A ticket must be bought before you enter a tram or bus, drivers do not sell any.


Accommodation

Participants will be lodged in the Comenius University guestrooms at the conference site and in the hotel UVS (about 15 minutes from the conference site) on the first come first served basis. Normal arrivals are expected on Sunday, August 24 afternoon, and departures on Friday, August 29 afternoon (or Saturday, August 30 upon request).

Conference Events

All participants and accompanying persons are invited to take part in the following social program:
Monday, August 25:
Welcome party. A get together reception at the conference site.
Wednesday, August 27:
Excursion. Bus tour to Cerveny Kamen castle built in 13th century to secure the protection of border. The castle houses exhibitions of period furniture and other art-historical exhibits.
Thursday, August 28:
Conference Dinner.

Program for Accompanying Persons

Additional program will be organized for the accompanying persons, provided there is a sufficient interest:
Tuesday, August 26:
Sightseeing tour to the Bratislava city centre.
Thursday, August 28:
Half-day excursion to the Modra. Includes visit of the manufacture of the well-known Modra ceramics with possibility of souvenir purchase.

Climate

The weather is usually very pleasant and sunny here in August, with day heights ranging between 25° - 30°C (77°-86°F) and night lows around 20°C (68°F), but be prepared for possible rain and temperatures around 17°C (62°F)
